Family Session Quick Do's & Don'ts Checklist Before Your Photoshoot
DO
- DO coordinate, not match. Same color head-to-toe on everyone can look like a group uniform. Let's do "put together", not "copy/paste."
- DO pick 2-3 colors + neutrals and build outfits around that. They say Simple=Timeless, but I LOVE color. Pick what you LOVE.
- DO lay outfits out together the day before (this avoids "why are we all clashing?" on session day)
- DO steam/iron and remove tags/wristbands if you don't want them photographed forever.
- DO plan for kids' best mood (fed + rested beats perfect everything)
- DO bring kid essentials:
- water, wipes, non-messy snacks, and a comfort item for quick resets.
- DO bring a touch-up kit:
- Brush/comb, chapstick, blotting sheets/powder, lint roller.
- Bug Spray - Mosquitoes are awful! * I have a handy pack of essentials in my bag in case you forget something.
- DO arrive 10 minutes early so everyone can breathe.
- Do expect movement. Real smiles happen when we're having fun - not when we're forcing "perfect".
DON'T
- DON'T try new skincare 48-72 hours before (surprise reactions are not invited).
- DON'T do a last-minute spray tan unless you already know it photographs well on you.
- DON'T go out and get sunburned. If you sunbathe, make sure you can't see tan lines.
- DON'T choose neon, huge logos or wild patterns. They distract and date the photos, unless that's what you really want.
- DON'T do identical outfits for everyone (it can look flat). Variation looks more natural and elevated.
- DON'T bring messy snacks right before (Cheeto dust is undefeated).
- DON'T stress if your kids act like kids. I plan for wiggles. We keep it moving and fun.
- DON't over-bribe or threaten. Not to tell you how to parent... lol. One simple "treat after" works better than a negotiation contract.
