You’re Engaged! Now What?

Your significant other popped the question and you said YES! DON’T POST A RING SELFIE JUST YET! Instead, here’s what you do before you spread the exciting news. Head over to your favorite bar or restaurant and celebrate. Or if your fiancé planned ahead, maybe he brought bubbly to celebrate the occasion. Savor that That electric moment of sheer, adrenaline-fueled, dopey love-drunkness you feel after your partner says “Will you? and you say “Yes”?Savor these moments together because you won’t get that moment back. Soak in that just got engaged feeling before you get wrapped up in the wedding planning. Enjoy the moment and do something you love to do together. Embrace all the emotions and revel in the beautiful moment. You’ll be happy you did.

Don’t feel pressured into telling people and making hasty decisions. Everyone can wait.

BUT, if you are ready to tell the world, there is a hierarchy. Try not to blast that gorgeous hunk of love on social media, besides you will want a manicure first. Parents should be the first to know. Then family and friends or if you want to wait you can opt for a surprise engagement party to announce to everyone all at once. This could be so much fun. You will have to be sneaky and make people think it’s just a party. Keep in mind the people you invite to your engagement party, should be the ones on your wedding guest list.

Next, Insure your ring. First, get an appraisal by a certified independent gemologist; most jewelers will provide this service upon purchase and make sure you understand all the terms of the policy. Find out whether you are covered if the ring is lost, stolen, or damaged, what stipulations there are if any, and how long the claims process takes. You might be able to add jewelry onto your existing homeowner's or renter's policy; if not, set up a separate policy.

Now decide if you want to elope, have an intimate micro wedding or a big fat greek traditional wedding, and pick your wedding party accordingly. I am sure you already know who you want in your wedding. If you didn’t have a surprise engagement party you can plan one at this time. I am sure your friends and family will want to celebrate you.

Then you can think about when you would like to get married. Whether it’s 1 yr or 6 yrs talk with your partner so you are both on the same page.

Now it’s time to get inspired. This is the fun part. Gather inspiration from book, website, magazines and the beloved Pinterest. Archive all your ideas so you can go back and identify your style and themes. The more you see and explore the industry and the clearer your vision becomes.

Find a photographer and take engagement photos. You don’t have to do an E-shoot but I highly recommend it, plus most photographers include them in their packages. I suggest booking way in advanced because popular months and weekends book up fast.

Now you can set a date and start looking at venues and booking vendors. Some venues are booked out 2 years so start now if you want to marry sooner than later.

Congrats to your new engaged status and let me know how I can help you with your wedding plans.
