Advantages of a “First Look.”
Among the myriad of wedding day traditions, first looks are popular-yet-polarizing.
More and more people are doing them and if you are torn between to have or not to have one, here are some things to consider when making your decision and reasons why you should.
One of the most important things to me as a photographer is you get genuine reaction without all eyes on you. The First Look is an intimate, special moment set for just the two of you. It’s just the two of you in this beautiful moment together with no pressure and no one watching. This creates very relaxed and authentic emotions and will inspire that initial reaction you’ve been dreaming of.
With a first look, you’ll get more than just a 60-second walk down the aisle. Your wedding day will go by fast, and you’ve been waiting for this special moment for so long so why not take this time to soak it in together. A first look allows you to slow down and take the time to be fully present at the moment together. You will be able to enjoy each other before the hustle and bustle of the day begin.
After the “I Do’s” the kiss and the ceremony ends, everything is a whirlwind. Guests are pulling you in every direction, then the DJ is lining you up, then you’re partying the night away with all of your guests, and moments where it’s just the two of you are far and few between. If you choose to set up a first look, you’ll be setting aside time for just you and your husband/wife to be alone to enjoy the moment and each other.
It will also help ease those pre-ceremony nerves and allows couples to focus during the ceremony. You have already had a private intimate moment together, now it’s time to embrace the ceremony vibes. Soak in all the love that is pouring your way from your guests and enjoy that moment at the altar.
A first look is usually always set up for immediately after you’re finished getting ready. At this moment everything is fresh and you are looking your best for each other! Tears may be shed but they are fresh, emotional happy tears!
And last but not least, a first look will allow you to knock out bridal and family photos depending on your timeline. This gives you more time after the ceremony to take artistic photos. With a scheduled first look, you get to set the time frame for portraits immediately following it, so you end up with extra cushion time for the best photos possible. AND you will get to enjoy cocktail hour. Who wants to miss cocktail hour? You will have time to enjoy cocktail hour and allow everyone to congratulate you then giving you more time to mingle during the reception.
So, if you haven’t given much thought to doing a first look or didn’t know it was even an option, now you know and have some good reasons to help you decide if it’s right for you and your significant other!!!
Cheers!!
